Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a **Principal Airworthiness Engineer** to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL at our Manned Aircraft Design COE (Center of Excellence).

**Position Overview:**

Performs development of basis of certification, determines methods of compliance, and compliance verification. Achieves the logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness compliance (MIL-HDBK-516, civil, and international standards) into system solutions to meet program objectives (e.g. flight releases, type certification, continued airworthiness, and operational or airspace integration). Reviews and coordinates with other Airworthiness Engineers, as well as with internal engineering disciplines at all levels of the air system to include: design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. Reviews functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, hardware, and software specifications for airworthiness compliance to the appropriate regulations, standards, and/or guidelines. Manages airworthiness activities throughout the development, sustainment, and disposal lifecycles.

**Basic Qualifications:**

+ Bachelors Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 or more years of engineering experience OR Masters Degree a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 7 or more years of engineering experience OR PhD. Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 or more years of experience.
+ Demonstrated experience in manned or unmanned aircraft systems with technical airworthiness planning and verification support including development and negotiation of airworthiness plans, basis of certifications, means of compliance, and certification activities.
+ Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded and -516C
+ Design and/or Systems Engineering experience in Flight Technology and Flight Test
+ A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance with a periodic reinvestigation, or an original adjudication date completed within the last 6 years is required to start with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Masters Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
+ Experience with DoD, Military or Civil Airworthiness experience.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
+ Military aircraft development or modification experience
+ Additional Design and/or Systems Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Air Vehicle Subsystems, Avionics, Mission Payload Integration, System Safety, Software, Diagnostic Systems
+ Ability to initiate Airworthiness Certification process improvement initiatives
+ USAF Airworthiness Policy Directives, Instructions, and Airworthiness Bulletins (AWB)
+ System Safety Risk Assessments (SSRA), program risks and hazard analyses

Salary Range: $108,600.00 - $163,000.00

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
