The National Electric Energy Testing, Research and Applications Center (NEETRAC) has multiple open positions for engineers and scientists at its 20-acre Forest Park, GA campus.

As a center in the School of ECE at Georgia Tech, NEETRAC is unique in that it is a self-supporting, membership-based provider of pragmatic, applied research and testing services to the electric energy transmission and distribution industry.

As a key US center for electric energy T&D services, we work with over 40 companies across North America including electric utilities, equipment manufacturers, and related industries in the electric energy arena. The diverse interests of the Membership enable NEETRAC to provide a dynamic work environment with extensive interaction to address real world issues and opportunities. Services include medium and high voltage testing for distribution & transmission systems, mechanical testing, asset management analytics, quality assurance programs for transformers and cable, as well as custom testing programs for product qualification and development.

NEETRAC provides an opportunity for engineers and scientists to work on a broad range of disciplines pertaining to electric energy. Disciplines are often interconnected with electrical engineers working on fluid pumping systems and mechanical and civil engineers using high voltage and high current equipment. Our staff have the opportunity to work on virtually any topic in the electric utility space as long as it serves an industry need. NEETRAC has a leading team of scientists and engineers who participate in and often lead over 20 national standards committees.  They make a significant impact on the standards that govern how electric transmission and distribution systems are designed and operated.

Engineers and scientists with any of the following experience should apply:

  • Electric utility experience, either for a utility or contractor, including standards, line design, line operations, operations and maintenance, research, protection and controls, and testing.
  • Test laboratory experience, including experience with high voltage, medium voltage, high current, high power, mechanical, environmental and thermal testing.
  • Product design experience, especially of electrical products used by electric utilities (connectors, insulators, conductor, enclosures, transformers, switch gear, etc.).
  • Asset management or operations research experience with an emphasis on component population statistics, managing physical infrastructure, risk characterization and mitigation, etc.

Our technical staff regularly do one or more of the following depending on their interests and abilities:

  • Conceptualize and develop research and testing project proposals (scope, schedule, budget, and deliverable).
  • Execute research and testing projects conceived by themselves or others. This involves communicating and working with industry stakeholders, writing test plans, working with junior engineers and test technicians who perform the tests and collect the data, getting your hands dirty and participating in testing when appropriate, analyzing data, writing reports, and preparing presentations, all while managing the project scope, schedule and budget. Engineers typically work on multiple projects of varying levels of complexity simultaneously.
  • Attend various standards development committees’ meetings (IEEE, ASTM, ANSI, etc.) either as a participant or in a leadership role. NEETRAC engineers and scientists frequently present our research at these meetings, providing the opportunity to inform and influence those standards.
  • Speaking at industry forums, including NEETRAC’s own Management Board Meeting, held three times a year.

If you are already an industry leader, we’d like to talk to you about how NEETRAC can amplify your message and impact. If you are not yet an industry leader, you will have the opportunity to become one.

If you are interested in being on the NEETRAC team, please submit your resume to:

If your experiences are a good fit, we will contact you.
