Come join LCRA Transmission Services, a growing transmission utility in the State of Texas, and be part of the leadership team that is associated with the Substation Engineering design group!   We are looking for an upbeat, hardworking and knowledgeable technical leader with utility engineering design experience that can lead multiple teams in a fast-pace environment.   As a technical leader, you will mentor, identify areas of opportunity for growth and development of your team members.  You will be responsible for the physical, protection and control, and SCADA design for green and brown field substation projects.  You will interface with LCRA's external Engineering partners and provide oversight to outsourced  projects.  You will also drive continuous process improvement for the department by establishing or revamping design and business practices, processes, procedures, and standards.  You will be asked to provide root cause analysis of operational and safety incidents, near misses and good catches; collect lessons learned and improve our design philosophies.   As a member of the Substation Engineering Leadership team, you will tackle sophisticated problems, provide mentorship, communicate Substation Engineering's position on technical topics to all levels of the organization, and be a key player in the day-to-day decision making.   This position requires a great deal of collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, an outstanding amount of curiosity and eagerness to learn, and notable interpersonal skills.

Key Functions:

• Create and promote a culture built upon the values of safety, integrity, respect, initiative and service within the group
• Be responsible for all aspects of direct supervision: establish goals for staff, hiring, performance management, coaching and counseling, and staff development
• Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders to provide innovative solutions
• Plan, schedule and assign project deliverables to teams; monitor progress and provide status reports
• Provide direction for the development of standards, processes, procedures, technical design guides, etc.
• Mentor and provide opportunities for growth for all staff members
• Provide recommendations and improvements to the department’s quality management and quality assurance systems
• Be a spokesperson for Substation Engineering on technical topics along with the status of the group’s project schedule

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

- Twelve years of experience in engineering including experience providing leadership in engineering.  
- A degree(s) in math, computer science, engineering, or related field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.  
- For Water Services, requires an engineering degree plus eight or more years of engineering experience and a Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas.  
- Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Broad knowledge in the areas of Substation Design including the physical design, protection and control design, and SCADA design
• Practical knowledge of 345 and 138 kilovolt transmission systems
• Manage multi-million dollar portfolio of transmission utility projects
• Supervisory, managerial or project management experience
• Knowledge of engineering and construction standards and processes including scheduling, contracts, coordinating and managing all disciplines
• Experience with Engineering Drawing Management Systems and AutoCAD applications
