As an Engineering Program Manager, you will enable collaboration and direction of technical teams of research and development engineers, in the creation and execution of product development strategies providing new endovascular products to patients with aortic disease. As a RD Core Team Member, the program manager provides direction and leadership to an extended team of engineers, while also representing the voice of RD on a cross-functional core team of program leaders. The RD Core Team Member is accountable to the core team for delivering on a product design that optimally meets the needs of patients, customers, and the business.


The Medtronic Aortic business is committed to developing minimally invasive solutions for the treatment of abdominal and thoracic aneurysms. Endovascular aneurysm repair is a minimally invasive alternative to major open surgery for the repair of aortic aneurysms that results in reduced recovery times and potentially improved survival rates for patients suffering from aortic disease. **A Day in the Life:**

Product development teams, or Core Teams, are formed from representatives of different functional departments to support the design, development, and transition from a customer need to market release of a new product or service. The functional representative for RD, referred to as the RD Core Team Member (CTM), leads the technical design and development of the product, supported by engineering staff from the RD function, forming an extended team. The size of the extended team is based on the scope and complexity of the program. RD CTMs drive the technical direction of product development, utilizing core technical skills developed early in their career. However, unlike the role of an individual contributor, whereby the primary contribution is specific technical subject matter expertise, the RD CTM must possess a balance of technical and leadership capabilities to effectively partner with fellow CTMs and lead the extended RD extended team.


Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides leadership and direction to a technical team of engineers within a matrixed organization without direct reports

Leads technical design and development for one or more small-scale projects from concept feasibility to commercialization

Accountable for technical development strategy, team dynamics, product performance, risk management, technical issue resolution, and budget and resource forecasting

Liaison with IP legal to protect intellectual property of the product(s)

Partners cross functionally with marketing, operations, quality, and other associated functions to build and communicate project strategies, execution status, and identify issues/resolutions


**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**


+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience


**Nice to Have**


+ Experience with the medical device regulatory industry

+ Strong track record of leading projects requiring strong influence management skills and willingness and ability to institute change

+ Significant engineering / design experience with high level technical skills - principal level preferred able to apply technical principles, theories, and new concepts to collaboratively solve difficult technical problems

+ Exceptional project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices

+ Business acumen; ability to think from an overall best for the business perspective

+ Experience working with contract design or manufacturing companies

+ Experience and/or certification in advanced project management (PMP preferred)

+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be independently mobile..

+ Able to travel 10% to 25% (air and ground, domestic and international)
