The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ranks among the best in the country. Our research programs are at the forefront of the technologies that have changed the world we live in. The ECE Department, part of the College of Engineering, is a large and diverse academic community, and includes global research and
teaching efforts through extensions of our Pittsburgh academic programs and research in Silicon Valley, Portugal, Africa, and Thailand.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is seeking an Associate Buyer that will be responsible for the purchasing of goods or materials and preparing and processing related paperwork in compliance with the University purchasing policy (i.e. purchase order). The Associate Buyer contacts vendors as needed to follow-up on questions and/or issues. Answers department related questions regarding the University purchasing policies and procedures. Generally, this position purchases goods and materials from vendors on the Procurement Services preferred supplier and contract supplier list. May assist with reviewing vendor lines, placing re- orders, pricing merchandise, managing inventories or performing price comparisons.
Core Responsibilities:
- Monitors the purchasing email inbox to promptly review, acknowledge, and determine ownership of purchase requests.
- Converts purchase requests to purchasing tickets using request tracker software.
- Ensures compliance with procurement policies.
- Uses a university purchasing card or Oracle Purchase Orders to convert Purchase Requests to orders.
- Creates Capital Asset Requisitions for capital equipment.
- Communicates with faculty and staff to provide order status and resolve issues.
- Reconciliation of university purchasing card transactions.
- Purchase Order invoice management, including uploading invoices, confirming receipts in the Oracle system, communication with Accounts Payable, and suppliers.
- Acts as backup support to the Manager of Procurement Services.
- Work closely with other team members, faculty, staff and students to provide price comparisons, vendor information and backup documentation for purchases.
- Places credit card orders
- Maintains auditable documentation that will support purchases.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree; bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- 1-3 years’ experience
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
