Description

Develops studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas and telecommunication facilities/systems under the guidance of an experienced engineer. Provides consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers as a result of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities under an experienced engineer. Reviews financial data from budget and actual costs of projects under the guidance of an experienced engineer.

The Corrosion Engineer is responsible for assessing, mitigating, and managing corrosion risks to ensure the safety, reliability, and longevity of the utility’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure. This includes designing and overseeing cathodic protection systems, performing corrosion assessments, and supporting maintenance and rehabilitation strategies for steel structures, towers, foundations, grounding systems, underground pipe type cable and other exposed and buried assets. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties
  • Performs engineering assignments while exercising independent discretion under the guidance of an experienced engineer. (e.g. Collect data, perform complex analysis, interpret results, draw conclusions, and clearly present a recommendation to management)
  • Performs engineering tasks associated with large projects or a number of small projects. (e.g. Analyze and interpret the results of complex power flows and perform complex engineering tests, and analyze non-specific and ambiguous results)
  • May direct the engineering tasks associated with a large project or a number of small projects (e.g. Verify and validate studies, blueprints, or designs against accepted engineering principles and practices. Design high voltage transmission and distribution circuits, meeting all engineering standards and criteria)
  • Participates on teams and may lead teams.
  • Key Responsibilities: • Corrosion Prevention & Control • Design, implement, and maintain cathodic protection (CP) systems for steel towers, poles, foundations, and grounding grids. • Analyze degradation mechanisms in various environments (e.g., atmospheric, soil, concrete-embedded) and recommend mitigation methods. • Inspection & Monitoring • Develop and execute corrosion inspection and monitoring programs. • Interpret field data and laboratory test results to assess asset condition. • Recommend and prioritize repairs or replacements based on risk and asset criticality. • Engineering & Design Support • Provide technical input on materials selection and coatings for new and existing structures. • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure corrosion mitigation is incorporated into project plans. • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and standards for corrosion compliance. • Compliance & Documentation • Ensure corrosion control practices comply with applicable codes, standards (e.g., NACE, IEEE, ASTM), and regulatory requirements. • Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and mitigation activities. • Manage corrosion-related projects including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor oversight. • Prepare technical reports, scopes of work, and procurement documents.
  • Working Conditions • Office and field-based work, including remote transmission line access. • May involve climbing, exposure to various weather conditions, and moderate physical activity. • Travel to substations, remote sites, and facilities throughout the service territory.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 2 - 4 years of professional engineering experience
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $83,200.00/Yr. – $114,400.00/Yr.
